DESCRIPTION:\nNUCLEAR BAN COLLABORATIVE\nTues\, June 7\, 8a.m\, Phila. Federal Building\, 6th & Market Streets\nWake-up Call to End to Nuclear War threats:\nAbolish Nuclear Weapons/Support UN Nuclear Ban Treaty. \n\nOn Tuesday\, June 7\, anticipating the first meeting (June 21 – 23) of the United Nations Nuclear Ban Treaty States Parties\, you are urged\, with thousands of people and hundreds of groups around the country to sign the STATEMENT ON THE EXISTENTIAL THREAT OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS\nThe statement urges the world’s nine nuclear armed states to take immediate steps to:engage the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons\, attend the First Meeting of States Parties\, and sign\, ratify and implement the Treaty. \nFor the full statement\, which is being publicly released on June 7\, and more on this campaign see https://nuclearbantreaty.org/statement-on-the-nuclear-threat/ \nOn June 7\, lead actions at local nuclear facilities\, military sites\, or federal buildings promoting the Statement on the day of its nation-wide release. \nIn Philadelphia\, the Brandywine Peace Community is organizing a simple action at the Federal Building. As a Bell of Peace tolls\, the statement will be read and distributed to Federal employees and other workers. Large colorful banners will also be displayed and people will hold posters supporting the UN Nuclear Ban Treaty and its goal of the worldwide abolition of nuclear weapons. \nFor more information see: call Bob Smith\,215-843-4827\n  \nSTATEMENT ON THE EXISTENTIAL THREAT OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND ON THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS \nThe power to initiate a global apocalypse lies in the hands of the leaders of nine nations. \nAs 122 nations of the world indicated when they adopted the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in July\, 2017\, this is unacceptable. \nAs concerns about the threat of nuclear weapons re-enter the public consciousness\, it is important to know that humankind is not without an answer to the nuclear threat. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons\, which entered into force on January 22\, 2021\, provides a clear pathway to the elimination of the nuclear threat. \nWe call on all nuclear armed states to take immediate steps to: \n\nEngage the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons\,\nAttend the First Meeting of States Parties\, and\nSign\, Ratify and Implement the Treaty.\n\nWe also call on the US media to recognize the existence of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and to include the Treaty in discussions\, articles\, and editorials regarding the nuclear threat and methods available to address it. \n \n \n
