DESCRIPTION:In the tradition and spirit of the many wonderful long–distance walks for peace\, Veterans For Peace has initiated a National Project which began May 7th\, 2024\, — a walk from Maine to arrive in Washington DC in July. We will be walking for peace and an end to the threat of nuclear weapons and all wars\, and for an environment that supports all life. \nPeaceWalk 2024 is open to all  who love peace and will walk for it. Folks can join the walk for as little or as long as they can. \n\nThe walk\, dedicated to the memory of Daniel Ellsberg (The Pentagon Papers; author off  “The Doomsday Machine\, Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner”\, will conclude at the NATO summit in Washington DC around July 4th – 5th. In the Philadelphia area this is part of The Campaign to Save The Future and the Daniel Ellsberg Days of Action\, June 11 – June 19th – We will conclude on Juneteenth! DESCRIPTION:Friday\, June 15th\, 2024\, Veterans for Peace\nPEACE WALK 2024 Crosses into Delaware County en route to Wash.\,DC\n\nhttps://peacewalk2024.org/about/\n Daniel Ellsberg passed on June 16\, 2023\, leaving us a legacy of unrelenting truth-telling and peace!\n  \n\n\n\nPeaceWalk 2024 will cross from Philadelphia into Delaware County this coming June 15.  The peace walkers will walk to the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse\, 1001 Old Sproul Rd\, Springfield\, PA 19064\,  where\, beginnning at 6p.m.\, there will be a celebration of the life and legacy of Daniel Ellsberg featuring a showing of THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA: Daniel Ellsberg and The Pentagon Papers. Showing of  the Academy Award nominated\, Best Documentary Feature\, 2010\, 94 mins.\, Trailer: https://www.mostdangerousman.org/\nDaniel Ellsberg\, economist\, Vietnam war combat veteran\,  political activist\, civil disobedient\, and former United States military analyst turned whistle-blower\,  was in 1971 charged under the Espionage Act of 1917 and other charges including theft and conspiracy\, carrying a total maximum sentence of 115 years for Ellsberg for leaking the Vietnam War Study “Pentagon Papers”. The case\, however\, was dismissed in 1973 because of government misconduct.\nThe PeaceWalk 2024 is dedicated to Ellsberg\, who passed a year ago\, on June 16\, 2023\, at the age of 92\,  leaving a lifetime of nonviolent activism for peace and nuclear weapons abolition.\nDaniel Ellsberg was the author of: “Papers on the War ” (1972); “Risk\, Ambiguity\, and Decision (2001)\, “Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers” (2002) and\, in 2017\, “The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner.” which he dedicated  “To those who struggle for a human future”.\nYou are invited for Pizza & Movie (!): June 15\, 6p.m. Springfield Friends Meetinghouse\,1001 Old Sproul Rd\, Springfield\, PA 19064\n\n\n\nYou’re invited to join us for a peace vigil and send-off outside the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse at 11 a.m. on Sunday\, July 16\, before the walk commences  with its next leg.\nYou are invited to join the walk for as far as you can.\n\n
