SUMMARY:U.S. Speaking Tour Stop U.S. THAAD Deployment in South Korea. No to U.S. Missile Defense in Korea
DESCRIPTION: \n\nTHAAD Comes to Korea\, But At What Cost?\nJoin us at Calvary Church (lower level) 801 S. 48th Street\, in West Philly at corner of Baltimore Ave. & 48th Street\nTuesday\, April 11\, Stop the U.S. THAAD Deployment in South Korea National Speaking Tour at Calvary Church (lower level) 801 S. 48th Street\, Philadelphia\, PA.\nOrganized by: Stop THAAD in Korea and Militarism in Asia and the Pacific\, www.stopthaad.org\n\nEndorsing Organizations: American Federation of Teachers local 2026; ANSWER – Philadelphia; Asian Americans United; Brandywine Peace Community\, International Action Center; Phila. Chapter of Congress of Labor Union Women; Workers World Party.\nNo To U.S. Missile Defense\n\n\n\n\nThe United States intends to deploy its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in South Korea. The announcement\, however\, has intensified military tension in the Asia Pacific region and huge numbers of South Korean people are protesting this deployment. \nStop THAAD in Korea and Militarism in Asia and the Pacific is a coalition of U.S. based organizations working to build a movement to stop its deployment in South Korea\, and pressing for diplomatic engagement to reduce militarization and tensions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. \n* We urge the U.S. government to rescind its decision on THAAD deployment in South Korea. \n* We urge the U.S. government to pursue all possible avenues for reducing tensions on the Korean peninsula by re-engaging in diplomacy with North Korea. \n* We urge the U.S. government to resolve conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region peacefully\, through diplomacy and dialogue. \nVery little is known in the United States about THAAD and the opposition of South Koreans to its deployment in their country\, and of recent diplomatic overtures by North Korea to reduce tensions on the peninsula. Yet\, its deployment should also be of concern to people in the United States.  We also will suffer if our country again goes to war. And even if the worst is avoided\, the continuing development of new and more destructive weapons systems draws precious resources away from needed domestic social programs. \nJoin us on April 11 at Calvary Church\nSee more about the U.S. THAAD weapons and the tour at http://stopthaad.org/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeatured speaker: Sunghye Kim\, Won Buddhist monk from Seongju\, South Korea\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Search for: \n\n\n\n
