Pre-Vigil of No Kings Day in Germantown, Friday, July 13

A pre-No Kings Day vigil of support, organized by the Brandywine Peace Community, will take place in historic Germantown on Friday, June 13 at 5 p.m. It will be held on Germantown Avenue at Market Square, which is between School House Lane and Coulter Street. Posters and large banners will be provided.  Bell-tolling.  The vigil will end across the street at the Germantown White House with a brief collection in silence.

In these difficult times, it bears remembering that George Washington refused pressure to become king of the newly formed country. He reminded his adoring supporters that they fought the Revolutionary War to end living under a king. It was time for a new form of government, “of the people, by the people, and for the people,’ as prescribed in the Declaration of Independence.

The Germantown White House is where Pres. George Washington met with his cabinet in 1793 to resolve domestic and foreign crises that threatened the new nation. This is also where he brought his troops in the summer to get away from the yellow fever epidemic that was ravaging low-lying Philadelphia.

Please join us in this special event to link our present-day crisis of government to the inspiring vision our forefathers’ put in place 249 years ago.
