HIROSHIMA DAY: Commemoration & Nonviolent Action

Wednesday, August 6, noon to 2 p.m.

Lockheed Martin, 230 Mall Blvd., King of Prussia, PA

(Mall & Goddard Boulevards) across from the IMAX movie theater

Vigil, ceremony of remembrance, followed by nonviolent protest at main driveway entrance.

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima killed an estimated 80,000 people, with tens of thousands more dying later of radiation poisoning. Lockheed Martin is the world’s largest war profiteer and nuclear weapons producer and has been chief among the Brandywine Peace Community’s campaign of nonviolent resistance over the past half-century.

Chief among U.S. war contractors, Lockheed Martin holds the largest part of making Trump’s “Golden Dome,” a multi-billion-dollar ($175 billion) “Star Wars fantasized” project, a U.S. continental system. Chief among Lockheed Martin sites working to make “Golden Dome” is the large King of Prussia facility overlooking one of the largest shopping malls in the country.

HIROSHIMA “Rest In Peace We Shall Not Repeat The Sin” [from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial]

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima, August 6, 1945, wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people in the blast and firestorm; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. Three days after Hiroshima, the U.S. dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people, and thousands more from the delayed effects of radiation poisoning.

In memory of the dead, as they peer to us from under the mushroom clouds, remember that the unimaginable threat of world wide nuclear devastation will only end with the abolition of nuclear weapons and the tools of their production.
