SUMMARY:First-Friday Free Large Screen Film Showing: '1971'
DESCRIPTION:Free First-Friday Large Screen Film Series at the Peace Center of Delaware County\, located at the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse.\n1001 Old Sproul Rd.\, Springfield\, PA (Behind Mr. Car Wash\, at the corner of Old Marple Road and Rt. 320/W. Sproul Road)\nFriday\, March 4th\, 2016\, 7 p.m. – ‘1971’\nA true tale of resistance in a time of war. And it began outside of Philadelphia in Media\, Delaware County… \n\n1971\n (U.S. 2014. 80 min. Documentary. Directed by Johanna Hamilton. Written by Johanna Hamilton and Gabriel Rhodes. Music by Philip Sheppard.)\nOn March 8\, 1971\, eight antiwar activists pulled off a stunning\, nonviolent break-in of an FBI office in Media\, PA. They took hundreds of confidential files that revealed existence of the FBI’s COINTELPRO operations: surveillance\, violent intimidation\, and harassment of Vietnam war protesters and civil rights activists nationwide. \nFor years\, the identity of the burglars remained secret until\, in 2014\, the award-winning book\, The Burglary\, by Betty Medsger\, came out\, revealing names\, faces\, stories. \n1971 is the film documentary of this true story\, told through dramatic re-enactments and interviews with the burglars\, the author of the book\, and some who were subject to FBI spying. It tells the gripping story of citizens who believed exposing the truth was worth taking great personal risk in a time of fear and war … a time not unlike today. \nDoors open at 6:30p.m. for light refreshments. After film discussion\, all invited.\nFor more information and directions\, visit www.delcopeacecenter.org or call 610-544-1818.  Co-sponsored by the Brandywine Peace Community. \n
