SUMMARY:75th Anniversary of the Bombing of Hiroshima. Commemoration & Nonviolent Action at Lockheed Martin\, King of Prussia\, PA
DESCRIPTION:\n \n75th Anniversary of the Bombing of Hiroshima\, August 6\, 1945\nThe atomic bombing of Hiroshima\, August 6\, 1945\, wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80\,000 people in the blast and firestorm; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. Three days after Hiroshima the U.S. dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki\, killing an estimated 40\,000 people\, and thousands more from the delayed effects of radiation poisoning. \n\nOn the 75th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima\, in memory of the dead\, remember that the unimaginable threat of world wide nuclear devastation\, will only end with the abolition of nuclear weapons and the tools of their production. \nJoin with the Brandywine Peace Community\, friends\, and supporters\,  in the fight to abolish nuclear weapons and rid the Earth of the threat to all humanity\, the threat of nuclear war! \nOn August 6\, 2020\, socially distanced and masked participants plan to gather onsite and outside Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia.  \nPeople are invited to stand or sit with large banners and signs\,\nincluding the Hiroshima/Nagasaki child pictured above.\n\nPeople\, if they can\, are also invited for a short period of time to kneel in commemorative memory of the 75th Anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima\, Japan\, by the U.S. government\, or to “take a knee” supporting  the Black Lives Matter outcry for racial justice\, recognizing the abiding connection between social justice and peace.\n \nParticipants are also invited\, if you can\,  to do a short “die-in\,”  witnessing to the criminal reality of the world’s #1 war profiteer and the U.S.’s #1 nuclear weapons contractor.\n \nJoin the Nonviolent Action Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and to demand the worldwide abolition of nuclear weapons supporting the United Nations Nuclear Ban Treaty. \nOur plans\, of course\, are contingent on the awful will of the coronavirus pandemic and the health guidelines as determined by state officials.  So please check back to make sure that our plans will proceed. \n  \nNUCLEAR WEAPONS & THE UN NUCLEAR BAN TREATY\nOn July 7\, 2017 –- following a decade of advocacy by International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and its partners -– an overwhelming majority of the world’s nations adopted a landmark global agreement to ban all nuclear weapons\, known officially as the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. \n\nThe treaty was negotiated at the United Nations headquarters in New York in March\, June and July 2017\, with the participation of more than 135 nations\, as well as members of civil society. It opened for signature on 20 September 2017. It is permanent in nature\, and will be legally binding on those nations that join it. \nAll nine nuclear armed nations abstained from the treaty’s adoption.  The United States along with Russia possesses 90% of nuclear weapons in the world today. \nSupport the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons\, click on link http://www.icanw.org/the-treaty . \nToday\, there is a growing\, worldwide movement pressing for the abolition of nuclear weapons\, to end\, once and for all\, the scourge of nuclear weapons upon the earth and the increasing threat of nuclear war to our human family. \nThe world is fighting back against the nuclear weapons powers and supporting the UN Nuclear Ban Treaty.\nSee how here\, http://www.nuclearban.us/ \nSupport the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at Lockheed Martin\, the world’s largest war profiteer and the U.S.’s #1 nuclear weapons contractor.   \n\nNOTICE OF UN TREATY PROHIBITION\nKing of Prussia\, PA\, August 6\, 2019\, this complex of the Lockheed Martin Corp. as well as related Lockheed Martin  facilities across the United States is involved in contracting to the U.S. government\, the U.S. military\, and the U.S. Department of Energy to develop and build nuclear weapons and related delivery systems which are\nPROHIBITED\nby the 2017 United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.   \nHiroshima Day\, August 6\, 2020 Noon\, at Lockheed Martin\, 230 Mall Boulevard in King of Prussia\, PA\, behind the King of Prussia Mall at the intersection of Mall and Goddard Boulevards. \n  \n\n \n\n+ Google Calendar+ iCal \n
